Outlook Express 5 - Additional E-mail accounts (Macintosh)


Outlook Express 5 will allow you to receive (and keep separate) e-mail from multiple accounts
  1. Open Outlook Express and click File then Switch Identity

  2. If you get a "Are you sure you want to close all connections..." windows, click Switch
  3. Select New on the Select an Identity window (below)

  4. In the New Identity window (below), give this identity a name (this is not Internet related, so you don't have to use your username); if you are configuring an additional Mid-Missouri Internet account, you can select the main account to to base the initial settings on; click OK

  5. You are now in a new Outlook Express screen completely separate from other accounts; click Tools then Accounts
  6. The Accounts windows opens (below); click the Mail tab to filter out the news and directory services accounts
  7. Click the New button to configure a new e-mail account

  8. If you do not get the window below, click the Configure account manually in the lower left-hand corner of the window that you do get

  9. Select the Account type you wish to use; POP3 is the default mail server type (your mail is downloaded from the server); you can also choose IMAP (your mail is copied from the server); Click OK

  10. In the Edit Account window (below), the Account name is the name of the icon that will appear in the Accounts window (it can be called anything)
  11. Under Personal information, your Name shows up when somebody downloads e-mail from you and your E-mail address is in the form username@mid-mo.net
  12. Under Receiving mail, your Account ID is your username, the server name is mail.mid-mo.net and the password is your password (if your uncheck the Save password box, you will have to enter the password every time you login)
  13. Under Sending mail, the SMTP server is mail.mid-mo.net
    * If you have a domain name with us, both server names are mail.yourdomain.whatever

  14. Click OK and close the Accounts window
  15. To switch between the identities, click File then Switch Identity
  16. Select the identity you want to switch to from the list of configured identities and click OK
  17. This process can be repeated for any additional e-mail accounts you need
