Dial-Up Networking must be installed before a connection to the Internet can be made. Computers pre-installed with Windows95/98 generally have Dial-Up Networking; if you have upgraded to or reinstalled Windows 9x, it might not be there. To check, do this first step:
Double-click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop
If you see a Dial-Up Networking folder icon, continue to Installing Client, Adapter, and Protocol
If there is no icon, close the windows and proceed with this section
Click on the Start button
Click on Settings
Click on Control Panel
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs
Click on the Windows Setup tab
Double-click on Communications
Put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking by clicking in it.
Click OK
Click OK
You may be asked to insert the Windows 9x CD or diskette(s) and restart the computer
