Creating a Connection with the Internet Connection Wizard (IE5)

Start the Internet Connection Wizard by right-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, selecting Properties, then clicking the Connections tab, then clicking Setup.
To set up a new connection, select the third option ("I want to set up my Internet connection manually…"). Click Next.
Select "I connect through a phone line and modem" and click Next.
In the Choose Modem window, you modem should already be selected (you will have to go through the Install New Modem Wizard if it is not), click Next.
In the Internet account connection information, uncheck the box next to Dial using the area code and country code. Enter your access number in the Telephone number window; include the 1-660 for a COS number in this box if you need to, and click Next.
Enter your username and password as they were given to you in the information you received from Mid-Missouri Telephone and click Next.
In the Configuring your computer window under the Connection Name heading, you can change the name of the connection to something shorter, Mid-Mo (this is just the name of the icon - it doesn't matter what it's name really is), click Next.
If Outlook Express or Internet Mail is installed on the computer, you will next be asked to configure the mail settings; select Yes and click Next.
If a mail account already exists, you will have the option to select that mail account (the wizard will exit) or if you want to set up a new account, select Create a new Internet mail account and click Next.
Enter the Display name (the name people will see when they receive mail from you) and click Next.
Enter your E-mail address as it appears on the information you received from Mid-Mo and click Next.
Select POP3 as the type of incoming server; the server names are mail.mid-mo.net (both incoming and outgoing); click Next.
Your Account Name and Password are the same as your login username and password on the information you received from Mid-Mo. Check Remember password and click Next.
Uncheck the box next to To connect to the Internet immediately…; click Finish.

Connecting to the Internet

Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
Double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.
With the right mouse button click once on the Mid-Mo icon and left-click on Create Shortcut; click the Yes button on the message box that comes up (you do want the shortcut on the desktop).
- Note: You can select Properties if you need to change your access number.
Close the Dial-Up Networking and My Computer windows by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner of each window.
You now have a shortcut to your dialer program on your desktop.

To connect to the Internet, double-click on the Shortcut to Mid-Mo icon on your desktop and enter your user name and password as they were given to you in the information you received from Mid-Missouri Telephone.
Double-check that your access number shows in the Phone number box exactly as it appears on your information from Mid-Missouri Telephone.
- Do not add any dial around codes to this number or you will be charged long distance usage
- Do not allow an office key system to add any dial around codes or you will be charged long distance usage
- Do not dial your access number from any other community or you will be charged long distance usage
Click on Connect.
The modem status window will appear and you should hear you modem dialing; the window will read Dialing, Verifying Username and Password, then Logging on to Network.
When the screen changes to one of those pictured below, you have made a successful connection.

Double-click the icon named Internet Explorer on your desktop to launch the Internet Explorer browser and enter the Mid-Missouri Internet homepage address (www.mid-mo.net). To set it as your start page, click Tools, then Internet Options, then click the Use Current button.
To disconnect, first close the browser and click the Disconnect button on the dialer.
- Depending on which version of Windows 95/98/NT you have, the dialer window may still be showing on the desktop and you can see the Disconnect button (Figure 2).
- If it is minimized on your task bar as a Connected To… button click once on that button to open that window back up to see the Disconnect button.
- If you have an icon of two computers connected (Figure 4), right-click on that icon and left-click on Disconnect.
It may take a few moments to close the window and shut off the modem (you may hear a click from your modem).
To connect from now on, you can:

use the method described above of double-clicking the Shortcut to Mid-Mo icon, clicking Connect, then double-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon once the connection is established or
double-click on the Internet Explorer icon which will automatically bring up a Dial-up Connection window where you can click Connect; the browser will continue to load through the connection process. However, you need to be aware of which Dial-up Connection window is brought up (look at what comes after "Connect to;" it isn’t necessarily the connection you have configured for Mid-Missouri Internet). Also, if there is a problem with the connection itself (line noise, incorrect access number, username or password, or the connection just takes a long time to complete) the browser will continue to load and give an incorrect error message regarding the web site when in fact the problem is in the dialer.
