Installing Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP Protocol

These are the minimum necessary components of the network configuration of Windows 9x to connect to the Internet. They are not installed by default in Windows 95, they should already be there in Windows 98. There must be only one item labeled TCP/IP (it may read TCP/IP --> Dial-Up Adapter), if there are multiple TCP/IPs (with the same thing after them), delete all but one. You will connect without installing Client for Microsoft Networks (or Windows Family Logon in Windows 98), but you will have to enter your password in your Connect To window each time you connect.

  • Without closing the Network window, continue to Configuring TCP/IP
