This step is unnecessary if you are a new Mid-Mo user, have a new computer, or just reinstalled Windows 9x; the default settings allow you to connect (we had to tweak the DNS information on the RAIN system). You may only have to enter workgroup information here. Entering the DNS information as outlined below sometimes allows a more stable connection with certain modems.
Click on the Start button
Click on Settings
Click on Control Panel
Double-click on the Network icon
Click on TCP/IP, then click on the Properties button
Make sure the option Obtain an IP Address Automatically is selected. (It should have a dot in the circle next to it)
Click on the WINS Configuration tab
Click on Use DHCP for WINS Resolution if it is not selected
Click on the DNS Configuration tab
By default, Disable DNS should be selected and remain selected; if you later have problems logging in ("Dial-Up Networking could not establish a compatible set of Network Protocols you specified..."), continue with the section below; otherwise, you may just have to enter workgroup information.
Select Enable DNS by clicking on it; The area below should become visible
Type your Mid-Mo assigned username in the Host box (in lower case)
Type the following in the Domain box:
mid-mo.net
Click in the DNS Server Search Order window before the first dot and type the Primary DNS number:
204.87.167.251
(Note: The dots will be placed in the number automatically; you will have to hit the space bar after typing 87 to move after the next dot)
Click the Add button. The numbers will "drop" into the larger window below
Click in the DNS Server Search Order window again before the first dot and type the Secondary DNS number:
204.87.167.250
Click the Add button. The numbers will "drop" into the larger window below
Type in a name, workgroup, and computer description (you may type anything you like in these fields, just as long as there is something in the box but the names must be different)
Click the OK button
Wait for the program to copy files, then restart the computer
